Jordan Henderson: Targeting World Cup berth

Henderson has been recalled for the forthcoming friendlies with Chile and Germany at Wembley.

His fifth and most recent appearance came in the Euro 2012 quarter-final penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy but he is keen to stake a claim to make the trip to Brazil next year.

Henderson returned to the England U21s set-up last season but his impressive club form during the current campaign has forced him back into Hodgson's plans.

"It's a massive boost and I'm delighted to be going there but when I'm there I need to make sure I'm working hard and do what I've been doing here really," said Henderson.

"I think it (the World Cup) is up for grabs for anyone.

"If you are doing well and your team is doing well people will be looking at you but now I have the chance to go and train and possibly play I have to make sure I'm at it from the start.

"I am sure a World Cup will inspire anyone but football is enough to inspire me, just to go out and play every week.

"Hopefully I can do the best I can and get picked again. I definitely think I have improved."

Henderson admits he has improved by playing and training alongside Liverpool and England skipper Steven Gerrard and he is keen to secure a regular starting berth for his club side.

"Stevie helps me all the time, in training, off the pitch, and when you play with him you learn a lot from him so hopefully I can continue to do that," he added.

"I have to make sure I am nailing a regular spot in the first XI, that is my main aim, to keep playing every week for Liverpool."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
