Joe Allen: Liverpool midfielder keen to play a big part in coming weeks

With the Reds riding high in the Premier League table, boss Brendan Rodgers is reluctant to tinker too much with a winning formula.

Rotation and competition for places is important at any ambitious outfit, though, and all of those in the senior squad at Anfield will be given ample opportunity in which to stake a claim for a regular role.

Allen hopes his efforts will be rewarded, but the Wales international acknowledges that dislodging the likes of Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Philippe Coutinho will not be easy.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "Yes it does get harder and harder to get into the team, but that can only be a good thing.

"That's something that's been great this season, the competition for places.

"Stevie's been playing fantastic in recent weeks but also we were able to cope when he wasn't in the team. When Luis (Suarez) was missing at the start of the season we coped with that. That's the difference this season.

"Every player in the squad has really played a part and that's a great thing to have."

Allen has been involved more frequently in recent weeks, with the 23-year-old having shaken off the injury problems which have disrupted his 2013/14 campaign.

He added: "I'm moving forward.

"Before Christmas I enjoyed a good run in the team and I was happy with my own performances and the levels I was getting up to.

"Unfortunately I had a little setback, but I'm now looking forward between now and the end of the season to staying fit and hopefully playing a big part in what could turn out to be a great season."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
