Nathan Redmond: Norwich winger was a target for Stoke

The club’s only significant outlay in the transfer window has been on Bojan Krkic, with Phil Bardsley, Steve Sidwell and Mame Biram Diouf joining on free transfers and Victor Moses arriving on loan from Chelsea.

However, Coates has been prepared to spend money after making offers for Liverpool attacker Assaidi, who spent last season on loan at the Britannia Stadium, and Norwich winger Redmond.

"We have made offers for players this year," Coates told The Sentinel. "On Nathan Redmond, we were prepared to pay money.

"We met Norwich's asking price, but the club didn't want to sell and I don't have any quarrel with Norwich for that.

"The point I'm making is simply that we were prepared to spend money, but the club wasn't prepared to sell.

"We also met Liverpool's asking price on Assaidi. That deal fell down on personal terms.

"Moses has then come along and so now we have got a different sort of deal.

"I'm satisfied with what we have done this summer. I believe we have had a good close season.

"We are simply doing things the way things are being increasingly done these days with players going out of contract."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
