Jernade Meade: Small but tenacious

The 20-year-old midfielder, a product of Arsenal's academy, will be given a chance to impress when the Gunners take on Bradford in their Carling Cup quarter-final on Tuesday.

The winger is just 5'3" tall, but after being described by manager Arsene Wenger as a fighter, he said: "That is definitely me. I am small, but I don't get pushed around.

"I don't give up. What I lack in height, I make up for in my drive and my fight.

"I feel I can do a job in this position. I'm fast and think I read the game well, although of course I can always improve."

Meade was handed his first senior start in last week's 2-1 Champions League defeat by Olympiakos, and he is hoping for more chances to shine as his contract is due to expire at the end of the season.

"I have mixed emotions because we lost to Olympiacos and that is disappointing, but it was a great feeling to make my first start - beyond words really. It was a big leap," he added.

"At Reading I came on for extra-time, but I would not have expected to play in the Champions League so soon. I grew in confidence as the match wore on and I can do better but hopefully I will get more chances.

"I need to get my name out there, get people watching me and maybe I can go out on loan soon as well to build up my experience.

"I have so much to improve on, but hopefully the boss sees something in me. This is the last year of my contract and hopefully I can earn another one."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
