Fernando Amorebieta: Ready to run down his contract and become a free agent

The Venezuela international has been offered fresh terms in Spain, with his contract set to expire at the end of the season.

He has, however, rejected the new deal and is prepared to see out of the final few months of his current agreement.

Interest in his services is already building, with informal talks having been held regarding his next move.

Ambitious Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala and Premier League heavyweights Arsenal are among those to be monitoring Amorebieta's situation, and his representative has revealed that a switch to England would be the 27-year-old's preferred choice.

"We have had some contact with other clubs, such as Anzhi, but Fernando wishes to play in the Premier League and that is our priority," Amorebieta's brother and agent, Kepa, said in Marca.

"There have been calls and sounds from Arsenal, but we still do not have a formal offer from them on the table."
