Pardew aims to end Cabaye saga

Alan Pardew wants Yohan Cabaye's future sorted soon amid reports the Arsenal target is refusing to play for Newcastle.

Yohan Cabaye: Newcastle midfielder has missed the club's first two games

Cabaye was again missing as Newcastle drew a blank in their opening home game of the season against West Ham on Saturday.

Pardew has already admitted Arsenal's failed bid left the midfielder's "head turned" and led to his omission from Monday's defeat at Manchester City.

And one Sunday newspaper report even claimed Cabaye has gone on strike in an attempt to force through a move before the transfer window closes on September 2.

Arsene Wenger on Saturday said Cabaye's absence from the Newcastle side was not down to any second offer from Arsenal, and Pardew still hopes to keep the player.

But the United manager wants the issue sorted out quickly either way.

He said: "The situation's quite simple, really. We need to resolve this and get ourselves in a position where if he stays - great - and if he doesn't, then we get someone equally as good.

"That is probably where we're at, and I don't really want to say any more than that."

Saturday's goalless draw with West Ham was an obvious improvement on their opening hammering at the hands of City.

"We had to dig in after Manchester City and really show our resilience which we did today," Pardew said.

"Defensively we did not put in a bad performance, offensively we know we have to improve, but we had some key players missing today and hopefully when we play Fulham one or two will be back."

haos reached its ultimate reckoning last weekend with Tony Hibbert looking assured at left back and Osman looking like a cultured ball playing midfielder before busting a gut to get to the back post for a Samuel Eto'o ball. Different chaos but chaos. If Kone scores the winner tonight I fear the world will end.
