Vermaelen quiet on future

Thomas Vermaelen admits that a lack of game time could affect his chances of making it in to Belgium's World Cup squad but would not be drawn on his future at Arsenal.

The Arsenal defender has linked up with Belgium for their internationals with Japan and Colombia over the next ten days, but he was late after receiving treatment back in England.

He was also forced off early in training for the Red Devils, but he says he is fine.

"I have no injury, I just was a bit stiff after the game on Sunday so nothing is going on and I am fit to play," he said when asked why he finished training early.

Vermaelen was quoted on Tuesday suggesting he was looking to stay at Arsenal, after being recalled for their loss at Manchester United following an injury to Per Mertesacker.

However, Vermaelen says he has not spoken to anyone about his future and does not want to talk about either staying or going.

"I don't want to speak about the situation because if I do I make it worse, so I don't want to speak. It is not about my situation it is about the team and they are doing well, it is not about me," he said.

Vermaelen admits he was pleased to return to action at Old Trafford, adding: "Of course you want to play as much as you can, so I was really happy to play on Sunday."

Vermaelen also said he had not heard about quotes from Belgian coach Marc Wilmots, suggesting he is guaranteed a place in the World Cup squad next summer - whether he plays or not.

"I don't know if he said that, I didn't hear it," he said.

"Nothing is for sure, there is still along way to go - there is big competition in the national team and you have to work hard."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
