Tomas Rosicky: Gunners have steel to sustain title bid

The Czech Republic midfielder has contributed greatly to the Gunners' march to the top of the Premier League and scored the second goal in Saturday's FA Cup win over north London rivals Tottenham.

Rosicky, 33, is happy that Arsenal have been able to put an inconsistent December behind them and has praised the squad for their impressive form over the festive period, which has kept them a point clear of Manchester City at the top.

"It was a bit bumpy when we lost against Manchester City and drew against Everton," he told Arsenal's official website. "But you will always have phases like that in a year so that's nothing new.

"This team has more experience than it did in the past. We have (Per) Mertesacker, (Mesut) Ozil, who won things in Madrid and the other experienced boys like Mikel (Arteta) and (Mathieu) Flamini.

"Plus the English boys are not kids anymore, they gained experience through the years of playing here so that's why I think we have the maturity to do it this year."

Rosicky pointed out the comeback win against West Ham United on Boxing Day as an example of the team's new-found resilience.

"The most important thing is that you never give up and always try to go for it," he added. "Like the game against West Ham, yes it will happen that the [other] team will score against you but you always have to carry on and that's what the boys did. It was very positive."

Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil, meanwhile, has been named Germany's national player of the year following a fans' poll conducted by the German Football Federation.

He told the German football association's official website: "This award makes me proud and happy. Above all, because (the vote) was carried out by the fans."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
