The Spaniard has been tipped to succeed David Moyes at Everton with the Latics' relegation from the Premier League heightening speculation that we will leave.

The 39-year-old, whose stock has risen as a result of Wigan's FA Cup triumph last Saturday, insists he has not thought about where his future lies.

He is due to meet with chairman Dave Whelan on Monday, the day after the final game of the season against Aston Villa.

"I know it can sound a bit stupid but I've never, ever thought about my situation yet," said Martinez. "It's important you get through those feelings. We had the opportunity to do that with the players over the last two days and now we're just focusing on Sunday.

"We really want to enjoy our time, as a football club it's a big day. After that we'll have enough time to look at individuals and see how we feel.

"It's going to be very straightforward and, whatever it is, it's going to be good for Wigan.

"One thing that we're going to do very quickly is understand where we are next season and what we have to do internally.

"Whoever is the manager at the football club will be ready and already thinking about the next campaign and make sure we're ready to start in the Championship and not starting the campaign still feeling hurt.

"This football club has got incredible, solid foundations and whoever is going to be the manager is going to have a very successful time.

"I know I'm not going to be here until I'm 100, there will be one day I can't be the manager. That's something that's normal but I've always said I'm honoured and privileged to be the manager and I'll enjoy it until that's the end of it."

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
