Roberto Martinez: Everton 'buying in' to his style of football

Everton have made a solid, if unspectacular start to the season - a 2-2 draw at Norwich followed by a 0-0 draw at home to West Brom on Saturday.

Howard believes they have shown enough in the two draws to demonstrate the possession football that Martinez wants is kicking in with the players.

"It feels good. We dominated possession and got a clean sheet. We didn't win the game but we take the positives out of it," he said.

"It is early yet. I think we played well in both games and were a bit unlucky, But that is the way it works. I think the performances have been good all along and as long as we put good performances together we will get the right results.

"I think there is a lot more possession now, a lot more encouragement to get on the ball, be positive. Everyone has bought into it, we are excited about it.

"As long as we can keep that defensive record nice and tidy we will give ourselves a good platform to go forward."

Howard had a relatively quiet day, only really called into action in the second half.

On the clean sheet, he added: "It's good but not just for me personally, for everyone at the back. It helps, second game of the season. They are hard to come by.

"I think draws are always good if you can sneak a win in the run somewhere - you feel unbeaten, you're picking up points.

"Draws hurt you when you lose on the back of them, but at the moment we are positive."

hould have stayed because we carried him for 6.5 years. And then he has a breakthrough season, and was gone soon after. MU fans, you would be as disgusted had C Ronaldo left in 2007 and not 2009.

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
