Hull have impressed Martinez

Everton boss Roberto Martinez feels Hull have done more than enough in their return to the Premier League to be taken very seriously on Saturday.

Roberto Martinez: Hull not to be under-estimated

Martinez's side return to league action looking to bounce back from a defeat at the hands of Manchester City, a result that ended their unbeaten start to the season.

Before the season started, Hull might have been looked upon as a home banker for Everton, but Martinez says their early results - only Chelsea and City have beaten them - mark them out as a team not to under-estimate.

"All the games are very important," he said. "Hull have had a good start and no one speaks of them as a newly-promoted side any more.

"They speak about how strong they are: in addition to the combination of the winning mentality and the tactical flexibility they had last season in the Championship they have brought in outstanding additions to make a strong group.

"I don't see Hull as a team who will come here and try to defend and try to make it hard.

"I think they will be themselves - they have only lost two games and I thought they had a big say in those two performances against Man City and Chelsea away.

"To get the result (a 3-2 win last month) against Newcastle away from home shows this is a team who will come to Goodison and believe they can get three points."

Martinez remains positive about his own team, who sit in seventh heading into the eighth round of fixtures but have only won three of their seven games.

"We are pleased with the start but it is only a start," he said. "We are in October and we will try to keep on growing, getting better and learning from experiences.

"We feel disappointed we dropped six important points in the opening three fixtures but now looking back what we need to do is carry on developing a way of playing which is going to be consistent and strong throughout the season.

"The squad is ready to do that and that is our next target; to concentrate on Saturday and make sure we carry on with the level of performance we have shown this season."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

H

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
