Martinez still wary of Arsenal

Everton manager Roberto Martinez does not expect Arsenal's defeat at Stoke last weekend to have any bearing on Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final tie.

Roberto Martinez and Arsene Wenger: Managers set to lock horns at the Emirates

The Gunners will be looking to bounce back from their 1-0 reverse at the Britannia Stadium when they host the Toffees, who defeated West Ham 1-0 in the Premier League last Saturday, at the Emirates Stadium.

"There is never a good or bad time to face a top team. We admire Arsenal immensely for the team they are," said Martinez.

"They had a disappointing result at the weekend but that does not change anything.

"They can perform without looking at what happened in the previous game.

"They are as good as anyone when they get on the ball and have free movement.

"But if you want to be winning a competition like the FA Cup you have to find a way of being effective against a team like Arsenal.

"We need to replicate the level of performance we had at the Emirates earlier in the season.

"I thought first half we played really well but when you are dominant you need to reflect that in the scoreline and that is where we need to improve."

Everton earned a creditable 1-1 draw at the Emirates in the Premier League in December and forward Steven Naismith thinks the trip south can be made with confidence.

"It is a massive game," said the Scotland international. "You need to beat the big teams if you want to get to finals and win trophies so we are going to work hard.

"It is probably not ideal for the manager that everyone has been away with internationals but it is the same for everyone.

"We need to come back refreshed and ready, and put on a performance like we have done not only at Arsenal before but at a lot of the big teams in away games."

e have the personnel. The trick is keeping them fit. Carrick and Blind have missed large chunks of the season, while the defence has been one muddled mess of intermittent stooges, all coming and going at various intervals thus far. We may be just short of title winning quality, but we're half way through. An injury crisis to either of the top two could change things. Optimistic, yes, but not unrealistic.

arish is the man to blame for this shambles. Pulis must be chuckling into his left over turkey sandwich. I pray this doesn't mean the Neil Warnock media machine will kick in now and he'll be back on the telly box.

e almost found a new way to lose, just when I thought it was getting boring Giroud does that. Although Arsenal are deservedly called 'soft' the entire midfield is out injured. Still must admit MU are managing to win despite a similar raft of absentees. Think the Gunners have good players but poorly coached.
