Sylvain Distin: Setting his sights on a top-four place for Everton

Sylvain Distin: Setting his sights on a top-four place for Everton

Having beaten Arsenal 3-0 at the weekend, Everton are in a position where they can guarantee a top-four finish by winning their remaining six matches.

One of those games is at home to Manchester City, who are competing with Chelsea and Liverpool for the title.

If Everton defeat City then it could help their Merseyside rivals become champions and Distin admits that has been a topic of discussion at Goodison Park.

However, the defender believes Everton have to focus on their own ambitions and insists it would be great for the city for both clubs to play in the Champions League.

"We've spoken about it with some of the staff and said, 'What if we have to beat City to be in the Champions League, but by doing that Liverpool win the League'?" said Distin.

"The funny thing is some people would rather we don't get Champions League as long as they don't win the league. It's mad!"

Distin added: "Personally I'd rather be in the Champions League. You can't miss a chance for that.

"It would be amazing for the city if both clubs made it. Deep down all the fans would like it if we were both were in it."
