Palace hero Freedman swapped Selhurst Park for the Reebok Stadium in October, but there was no bitterness among the home support before a goalless draw.
He said: "I thought it was a fantastic reception, I had some wonderful times here and they will never be taken away from me."
The Scot was happy enough with a point after watching his side weather a second-half onslaught.
"I enjoyed the game, we had plan and stuck to it and played some terrific football," he said.
"Towards the end Palace got their widemen in the game but I'm satisfied with the performance. I felt it was a fair result and I'm satisfied with a point."
