Marvin Sordell: Believes England squad let their manager down

England were eliminated from the European Under-21 Championship after group game defeats to Italy and Norway, sparking debate about the country's preparations.

The likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Phil Jones were eligible for the tournament but linked up with the senior squad in Brazil instead.

But Bolton forward Sordell believes the players in Israel were capable of doing better after producing consistent performances together in qualifying.

"We qualified with the squad that is here now," Sordell told Sky Sports News.

"Those nine games that we won in a row were with the squad that is here now.

"You say that the best players are not here but the manager has picked the best players available to him then and for this tournament as well.

"I think we probably let him down.

"To get beat and have given it your best shot with everyone playing out of their skin, then that's fair enough.

"But when we've not played as well as we could have - or should have - then it's very disappointing."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
