Nigel Adkins: Urges Reading to retain possession better

Hornets forward Diego Fabbrini scored a last-gasp equaliser to deny the Royals their second victory of the season but Adkins believes his goal could have been prevented if the Royals had retained possession.

He told the club's official website: "If you've got the ball, they can't score.

"We're trying to pass the ball, and near the end I heard somebody behind me say, 'get it forward' but I was thinking, 'no, no, no!'.

"If you get the flow of the game, you can score more goals by taking the sting out.

"Keeping the ball and boring the pants off the opposition gives you an opportunity to drag them about and create even more space. It's still a work in progress for us of course.

"We get too frustrated, when a simple pass is on we think we've got to go and score again. Sometimes keeping the ball is a great way to go and defend. It gives you the flow of the game.

"As it was, we were trying to score so gave it to them too often. That gave them momentum and it's hard to get it back. You then have to string out, you're on the back foot and we allowed them too much momentum.

"Good teams will frustrate their opponents and keep the ball. Maybe we were too attack-minded, but we'll learn from it and put it right."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
