Hope Akpan: Struggling for regular game time at Reading

The 22-year-old has made just one start this season, and that came in a Capital One Cup defeat to Peterborough United.

With Championship action proving elusive, the midfielder - who was taken the Madejski Stadium by former Royals boss Brian McDermott - feels he has lost the trust of boss Nigel Adkins.

With there only so long players of ambition can accept being overlooked on a regular basis, Akpan acknowledges that the time may have come for him to look elsewhere.

He told the Reading Post: "It's very frustrating. I'm waiting for an opportunity but it hasn't really arrived.

"This must be a sign that I'm not doing something right.

"We'll just have to see how the situation goes. I might have to re-evaluate. Every footballer wants to play.

"If I have to go on loan, that's an option I would be open to.

"I'll have a word with the manager, we'll evaluate the situation and see what needs to be done."
