Royston Drenthe: Over his injury troubles and looking to earn a regular role

The Royals pulled off quite a coup in luring the former Real Madrid and Everton winger to the Madejski Stadium over the summer.

He has, however, seen his first team activity restricted by a number of setbacks.

A toe complaint kept Drenthe sidelined for 11 weeks, with a return to action made off the bench during Saturday's 2-1 defeat to Bournemouth.

Boss Nigel Adkins claimed after that contest that there is 'no way' the 26-year-old will take in a 90-minute run-out any time soon, but the Dutch midfielder insists he is close to peak fitness.

Drenthe told the Reading Post: "I'm ready to start at Huddersfield. I'm always ready, even if people think I'm not fit.

"I have been back training for three weeks with the group and waiting for the opportunity.

"So it has been frustrating sitting on the bench and not coming on or even travelling and not being on the bench, but these are things you're going to get in football and you have to accept that. It's not always that easy.

"The gaffer makes the decisions and he knows what is best for the team. But I want to start every game - and I will always be ready.

"I'm 26 and I've been with loads of clubs already and seen so many things, but it's still difficult.

"Hopefully now I can keep working hard and soon get into the first XI, that's my priority.

"Getting the chance again to get some minutes is a really positive thing for myself. But, like everybody knows, I'm a winner and I only think about the team.

"The most important thing is my team and Reading at the moment."

couple of wins and everything is OK! Sorry you still haven't got a striker who can consistently goals. Keep searching. I don't think Liverpool will make top four not even Europa League this time around.

f he can find the right player? Surely the manager of one of Europe's top clubs has a well-researched short-list and has a good idea of who he wants to bring on-board? If I can find the right player sounds like someone going out on Saturday night on the pull, and the nearer you get to midnight the lower your standards drop.
