Jan Vertonghen: Says Tottenham have the players to beat Manchester City on Sunda

City will start as favourites in Sunday's game at the Etihad Stadium but Vertonghen has detected a slight lack of confidence among Roberto Mancini's men.

Spurs have also saved some of their best performances this season for matches on the road and have good enough players to be successful against any opposition, according to Vertonghen.

"City have been struggling a bit with their confidence and we are strong in away games. We can hurt them on the break," the Belgian said.

"We want to win there and we're capable of it. Why not? City are one of the best teams in the Premier League but with our pace we can hurt anybody, so we're hopeful of getting a good result."

Gareth Bale is also looking forward to the clash with City after helping Tottenham return to winning ways against Maribor in the Europa League.

"We needed the right reaction after the weekend and we certainly did that," Bale told the club's official website. "The lads are delighted and we've got to maintain that form now going into the Premier League.

"This is another big game. We went there last season, gave them a good run for their money and probably should have won, but it wasn't to be.

"We'll go back up there full of confidence again after playing well against Maribor.

"We know it will be very difficult on Sunday and we'll give it our all. We've played well away, we'll prepare right and hopefully we'll get the right result."
