The Brazilian, 31, fell below Brad Friedel and Hugo Lloris in the White Hart Lane pecking order and has secured a temporary move to the Bundesliga.
The Tottenham website stated: "Heurelho Gomes has joined Bundesliga side Hoffenheim on loan for the rest of the season.
"The Brazil goalkeeper has made 136 appearances for the Club since joining from PSV Eindhoven in July, 2008."
Gomes confirmed he had left London on Thursday, stating on his Twitter account: "On my way to Germany for a medical."
The shot-stopper was one of the first signings made by Spaniard Juande Ramos, who paid PSV £7.8m for his services almost five years ago.
The Brazil international was their Player of the Year in the 2009/2010 season, when the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.
Several high-profile errors prompted Harry Redknapp to bring in 40-year-old veteran Friedel to provide competition for the No 1 jersey in 2011, and Gomes has fallen to third choice since Lloris' arrival last summer.
