AVB: Champions race still on

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas takes his team to Stoke on Sunday insisting the race for Champions League qualification is still very much alive.

Chelsea will confirm their place at Europe's top table by beating Aston Villa on Saturday, leaving North London rivals Spurs and Arsenal to scrap it out for the final spot.

Arsenal are in pole position, a point ahead with two games apiece left to play.

"Hopefully there will be more twists and turns," Villas-Boas said.

"We have to do our job in the two remaining fixtures and it's time for somebody to slip up. At the moment, we can only focus on ourselves, try to get the maximum points possible and wait for something to happen.

"The Premier League can change in a weekend. Everything is still a possibility."

Spurs face Stoke at the Britannia Stadium and Villas-Boas is expecting a tough physical battle, with the Potters needing a point to secure their Premier League survival.

Stoke midfielder Charlie Adam has given Gareth Bale two serious ankle injuries over the past two years.

"I always considered Stoke's teams very aggressive," the Spurs boss said.

"They have an in your face style. I think they have the conditions there and the quality of individuals. Maybe they haven't scored the points that they wanted.

"Their home record last year was impressive. This season they couldn't get the results they wanted, but in the end survival is what they wanted and they are one point away from achieving it."

t's why Mourinho is so successful. He gives players a specific, limited set of functions to perform. They are but a cog in a machine. Do no more, do no less. I assume he learnt it from LvG :)

really hope that someone in the mainstream media spots that the Bayern manager played for and managed Barcelona quite well, and thinks to mention it in the build up. That would be really interesting.
