Townsend wants to keep up form

Andros Townsend insists that he is not even thinking about the World Cup yet, despite a brilliant start to his England career.

Last Updated: 20/11/13 at 09:12 Post Comment

The Tottenham Hotspur winger only made his senior international debut last month, in the crucial qualifier with Montenegro, but he has featured in every game since.

He was one of the few bright points to come out of the 1-0 loss to Germany on Tuesday but, despite his recent form, he insists that he still cannot think about Brazil.

"I have had a good start to my international career, but I think it is too soon to start talking about Brazil," Townsend told Sky Sports News.

"We have got six/seven months of club form now, I have got to keep playing well for my club for six months then hopefully I can secure my place on the plane."

Townsend also insists that despite losing, England can take plenty of positives from their midweek performance.

He added: "It was good for us to test ourselves against one of the best nations in Germany.

"One of the favourites for the World Cup, obviously we didn't get the result we wanted but it was a good positive performance and we will definitely build on it."
