Spurs players were seen looking relaxed in the Anfield tunnel, with some leaning against the wall as they prepared to take on the title challengers.

Sky Sports pundit Hoddle was unhappy with that approach to such a big game but Sherwood was keen to defend his charges as they prepare for Monday night's match with strugglers Sunderland at White Hart Lane.

"He is entitled to his opinion but it's been a long time since Glenn Hoddle managed a football team and the game has moved on quite significantly," said Sherwood.

"That wouldn't have been brought up if we had gone on to win the game.

"I've been a pundit myself and it's easy to pick up on things when you have nothing else to talk about other than to be critical about your ex-side."

Tottenham announced this week they are planning to move into their new purpose-built stadium by 2017 and are considering a temporary move to Wembley while building work is underway, having failed in an audacious bid to buy Upton Park.

Sherwood was asked about the potential move to the national stadium at his pre-match media conference and he insisted it would pose no problems to the team.

"It will have to work," he added. "Our neighbours (Arsenal) have done it while they were building their stadium and we will have to make it work for Tottenham.

"The guys who are making those decisions will make the correct ones, or the ones that are available to the club at that time."

Spurs legend Ledley King, whose All Star XI will take on the current Spurs side in his testimonial match next month, believes the new stadium is vital if the club have ambitions to join the Premier League's elite.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: "I think this will be a very exciting time for the club. They are keen to move to a new level and this stadium will be vitally important for that.

"We have seen Arsenal do it in recent years and I think that is the way forward for the club. If we want to become a real top-class team it will start with the new stadium.

"We have moved to a new training centre recently. It's a great place and I know the stadium will also be something the fans will be looking forward to."

ou can't blame De Gea for wanting to leave, he has enough to do in front of goal as it is as well as taking on the role of Man Utd's version of Derek Acorah in trying to contact and organise a defence that isn't there.

f you want to take six points off Arsenal, then that's a great strike force. Can't imagine either of them showing much for the rest of the season though...
