The German side, who finished third in the Bundesliga behind Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund last season, will take on Mauricio Pochettino's side at White Hart Lane on Saturday August 9.

The match will allow two players to play against their former clubs, with Kevin-Prince Boateng returning to north London after spending two years at Spurs between 2007 and 2009 while Lewis Holtby moved to Tottenham from Schalke in January 2013.

Jens Keller's side will be preparing for their sixth Champions League campaign in the past nine seasons.

The clash with Schalke will follow Spurs' pre-season tour of the United States, where they will play the Seattle Sounders, Toronto and Chicago Fire in late July, before taking on Celtic in Helsinki on August 2.
