Andros Townsend: Has been the subject of interest from Southampton

Andros Townsend: Has been the subject of interest from Southampton

The 23-year-old was the subject of a £10m offer from the Saints earlier this month, which was staunchly rebuffed, and Sky Sports understands the south coast club have discussed returning with another offer.

But Townsend, who was not picked in the 18-man squad for Spurs’ 4-0 win over QPR, is still considered an important part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans this season and impressed as a substitute in the opening day win at West Ham.

Sky sources understand Townsend was disappointed not to make the squad on Sunday but is determined to force his way into the side and does not wish to leave the club either.

Pochettino, previously boss at Southampton, has previously stated: “Andros is an important player.

“He’s an English player for the national team, missed the World Cup because of injury, but we need to recover a player like him because he has great potential and very good quality.”

Tottenham have previously expressed an interest to Southampton in Morgan Schneiderlin and Jay Rodriguez this summer, and Sky Sports understands Spurs still hold hope of prising Schneiderlin away from the south coast.

But Southampton have also told Tottenham and the France midfielder himself, following a protracted spat between club and player, that no deal can be struck in the current window.

According to Sky sources, Schneiderlin was keen on reuniting himself with former manager Pochettino at White Hart Lane, but he has since been reintegrated into the Southampton team and has featured in both their Premier League games so far this season.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have agreed a deal in principle to sell Michael Dawson to Hull, as they continue talks to bring in Sevilla centre-back Federico Fazio.

think that puts all doubts over Benteke's quality to bed. Can he do it after receiving the ball to feet, in the box, totally unmarked, on a warm, sunny afternoon in Swindon? Oh yes he can! This year is definitely Liverpool's year. YNWA.

ll very well selling all midfield and strikers but unless we bring anyone in that is better than what we had then it will be a terrible transfer window in my view. Sorted out the defense but our midfield and striker options look very light.

ove it when Jose accuses others of being defensive, cynical and playing to win. If I was Wenger, I'd get that quote laminated and framed - surely the biggest compliment he's ever received from Mourinho. You've got him riled Arsene - you're relevant again!
