Kevin MacDonald: Favourite to replace Berg

Punters back former Aston Villa boss for Ewood post

Kevin MacDonald has emerged as the bookies' favourite to become the next Blackburn boss after Henning Berg was sacked Thursday morning.

Berg was relieved of his duties by the Rovers board after just 10 matches and 57 days in charge of the Ewood Park club.

Rovers have won just once since Berg took over from Steve Kean, a run of form that has seen them slide down to 17th in the Championship table.

Former boss Mark Hughes (now 4/1) was immediately installed as Sky Bet's 2/1 favourite but was overtaken by MacDonald (1/4), who was linked with a coaching role at Ewood Park only last week.

It would represent a first full-time managerial position for MacDonald having previously held caretakers roles at Leicester and Aston Villa.

Former Rovers captain Tim Sherwood is 12/1 followed by Kenny Dalglish (16/1) while the club's global advisor Shebby Singh has been backed in from 33/1 to 20/1.

Sky Bet Football Trader Chris Spicer said: "Hughes was the man people initially went for and would appear to be the fans' choice.

"However, we have since seen a series of hefty bets on MacDonald. He was linked with the club last week and perhaps punters are putting two and two together."

m starting to think Roman may never actually be happy at the top level. If he wants all conquering fancy football I wonder if he'd be better off buying a lower division side then paying outlandish salaries to attract high caliber players too good for the division.
