Dickson Etuhu: Among those to have negotiated their release by Blackburn

Dickson Etuhu and DJ Campbell have joined David Goodwillie in seeing their deals at Ewood Park paid off.

Blackburn are looking to free up space in their squad by removing those deemed surplus to requirements.

There are, however, no plans for a major cull, with managing director Derek Shaw insisting that stabilising and strengthening is now the order of the day.

He said in the Lancashire Telegraph: “We’ve been trying to sort something out for a while now and we’ve finally agreed something.

“It was the same last summer with Gael Givet, Danny Murphy and Morten Gamst Pedersen – we’re trying to move on players who do not figure in the manager’s plans.

“We’re trying to clear the decks and there’s no point having those players around if they are not going to feature.

“It’s well documented about the Financial Fair Play rules and we’ve got to work to try and get everything in order.

“But just because they’ve gone, it does not mean the costs have gone as we’ve agreed settlements.”

That means manager Gary Bowyer will not be given any extra funds, but he is continuing to work hard on the recruitment of fresh faces and appreciates that there is a long-term plan at Blackburn.

He said: “We have to cut our cloth accordingly now and put a structure in place.

“We’ve been trying to do that over the last 12 months and, as I’ve stressed, it will probably take another two more windows before the club is back on a sensible standing.”

h Daniel. I could spend hours on this subject putting the world to rights. You can even take a step back and ask why football fans (and society in general) have this need to know that something will happen before it actually does. There are times this important, when it comes to things like war, food production and natural disasters. A man you've never met changing his job? Not so much.

reat article. Hits the nail on the head. Encapsulates why I don't read tabloid newspapers anymore. The only thing worse is the 'told you so first' headline when they get lucky.
