Lambert shuns Bent questions

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert refused to answer questions about the future of Darren Bent following his side's 2-2 draw at relegated Wigan.

The striker scored his first Premier League goal since September as he opened the scoring against FA Cup winners DW Stadium.

Emmerson Boyce levelled before an own goal from Nathan Baker put the hosts ahead. However, skipper Ron Vlaar made sure Villa left with a point with a brilliant volley on the hour mark.

After the game the Scot was asked by Sky Sports whether Bent, 29, will remain at the club this summer.

He replied: "That's an unfair question. We've just played a game. It's not over one player, it never is and as I've said, we're going to sit and evaluate what's been happening with everybody, including the chairman."

Lambert was pleased with the point and thanked the fans for standing by his side during bad times.

"I've said before we've been playing really well and we're getting better and better," he added. "The lads that are new at the club are starting to get a grip with it.

"The fans have been brilliant. I've got nothing but thanks to say for the Aston Villa supporters because they've been incredible for us.

"During Christmas time, they could have easily turned on us but they stuck with us because they could see what we were doing.

"You have to improve and there will be some changes there. We want to keep evolving the club and moving forward."

Lambert also admitted that his first season at the club has been 'really hard' although he has enjoyed every minute of it.

"It's been really hard, but I've loved it. There is a huge pressure being the manager of this football club but I've loved it.

"As I've said before we're in a transitional period, we've developed it. The biggest yardstick has been the crowd because they can see that something is happening."

m only commenting on this (I don't care about Liverpool) because F365's twitter said I had call Matt Stanger a tw*t (which I don't agree with anyway) but I just wanted to be the first. Am I the first?

S

unday, Sunday. Will there be a fan of either team, who if they are winning after 80 mins, won't still be nervous? This could be anything from 0-0 to 5-5, and no one would bat an eye.
