Christian Benteke: Paul Lambert wants striker to stay at Aston Villa

The Belgium international has been strongly linked with a swift departure after bagging 19 Premier League goals in his debut season following a £7million move from Genk.

Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid are among the teams said to be monitoring the powerful 22-year-old after his key role in helping Villa beat the drop.

But Lambert feels that Benteke's future would be better served by remaining with the Midlands outfit, where he is more likely to feature on a regular basis.

The Scot told Talksport: "If you take that gamble to move to one of these huge clubs, then you might not play as many games.

"Footballers want to play. If they're hungry enough, then that's half the battle. The pressure on a young player moving is high.

"He's still a young lad learning the game and developing into a man."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
