Hutton prepared for Belgium

Aston Villa defender Alan Hutton insists the Scotland squad are relishing the prospect of playing Belgium on Friday at Hampden.

Scotland are already out of the running to qualify for the World Cup from Group A and are keen to avenge a 2-0 defeat in Belgium last October.

But Hutton believes there has been steady improvement since Gordon Strachan's appointment as manager, and he cites the recent victory over Croatia and the narrow defeat to England as examples of an upturn for Scotland.

Hutton said: "I think there's a lot of excitement there. We've been working very hard all week. We didn't have the best game against them last time, so I think we want to put that right this time.

"I think the last two performances have been really up there. The new manager's come in, we've worked very hard and it seems to have paid off - the last two games.

"So I think there's a lot of positives we can take going into the home game against Belgium.

"I think as a unit we've just been working very hard especially in training - getting things defensively right, trying to play out, build, be compact as a team so, we've been working that hard it seems to be paying off."

Hutton is confident he will have no trouble slotting into the team if selected, despite limited game time with Villa of late.

He added: "I've been keeping myself fit. I've been working hard. I've been here doing the double sessions, working really hard so, if called on I'm fit and ready to play."
