Guzan just happy to play part

Brad Guzan has insisted that clean sheets are just a bonus and he is more concerned about Aston Villa winning games.

Brad Guzan: Targeting a Capital One Cup run after Premier League win over Norwic

Villa shut out their opponents for the first time in 27 Premier League matches as they beat Norwich City 1-0 at Carrow Road on Saturday.

Goalkeeper Guzan played a major role by saving Robert Snodgrass' early penalty and producing a number of other good stops, but stressed after the game that he was far more pleased about the three points than his own individual performance.

He said: "I'm not going to lie to you and say it's not nice to keep a clean sheet, but that's not the most important thing. The most important thing is we get three points and win.

"If we were to go the rest of the season without a clean sheet and won every game, I'd be a happy goalkeeper. It's a bonus when you get a clean sheet. It's not easy in this league to keep a clean sheet with the talent teams possess.

"As a keeper you just try to do your job and help the guys in front of you and fortunately I was able to do that.

"Going so long without a clean sheet speaks volumes for what this league is all about.

"Whether you are playing a top-four team or a team towards the bottom, it's always difficult to go 90 minutes and keep teams at bay."

Guzan admits the penalty save was a crucial moment in a game that was ultimately decided by Libor Kozak's 30th-minute strike.

"That was a big point in the game so for me to be fortunate enough to go the right way and save the penalty, I was just happy to do my part," Guzan said.

"If we had gone 1-0 down there would have been a different tone and tempo to the game."

Villa's next challenge is a home tie against Tottenham Hotspur in the Capital One Cup, and Guzan is determined to go one step further than last season after a surprise loss to Bradford City in the semi-finals.

"Going to the semi-final and not getting to Wembley was a bit of a hiccup," he said. "So we want to get to Wembley."

t's a bloody good goal, though. Sh!t, the kid's gonna be the worlds best before we know it, isn't he? He's got the touch of genius in him. Like Neymar, but with muscles and stuff. He's doing a Ronaldo as we watch. He's bulked up to be able to ride the tackles, but he's improved technically as well. His touch is sublime. Bugger.
