Christian Benteke: Has missed Aston Villa's last two games

The forward has sat out Villa's last two Premier League games with a hip injury and manager Paul Lambert insisted that Benteke would have the final say on his fitness.

Benteke has been assessed by medical staff after travelling to Belgium and will not feature in Friday's match with Croatia, but could be involved if needed in the game against Wales on Tuesday.

Lambert will be hoping that Belgium secure a favourable result in Croatia as a draw would be good enough to send the team to Brazil as winners of Group A.

Villa were held to a 0-0 draw at Hull on Saturday and Lambert will want the 22-year-old to return against Tottenham following the international break.

When asked about Benteke, the Scot said: "I trust Christian to do the right thing. He is probably stuck in the middle right now.

"But I've had a good chat with him and he will know himself what is the right thing for him to do. I trust him. But I won't be happy if he plays for Belgium and comes back to me injured."
