Danny Simpson: Defender's Newcastle contract expires at the end of the seaso

The defender is out of contract at the end of the season and it has been reported his club could be willing to listen to offers in the winter market.

But Simpson wants to stay and, ahead of Thursday's Europa League game against Bordeaux in France for which he could be rested, he hopes he has not played his final European match for Newcastle.

When asked if he would still be part of Alan Pardew's plans in February, when the Europa League resumes after a winter break, Simpson told the Chronicle: "Of course.

"It's a while away yet but if I have it my way, hopefully, I'll be playing in the next phase. I love playing in Europe. I'm enjoying every minute of it."
