Danny Simpson: Very hungry to do well and earn new contract

The 26-year-old defender, who is out of contract in the summer, has a good chance of featuring against the champions with Newcastle without injured full-backs Mathieu Debuchy, Massadio Haidara and Davide Santon.

As well as trying to win a new contract, Salford-born Simpson also has extra motivation to do well at the Etihad Stadium - he was a boyhood Manchester United fan.

"Trust me, he's motivated to play well," Pardew told The Shields Gazette.

"To be fair to Danny, he's trained really hard.

"I sort of tipped him off that he's got a good chance of being involved this week, and he's worked really hard.

"He's in an unfortunate position in terms of his contract, so he's very hungry to get a new one, whether it's here or somewhere else."

ood grief. Someone guessed that the form English player at the moment might be in his national side with some other players? And that's espionage? Now if they discovered that Emile Heskey was going to be in the starting line up.... at right back.... THAT would be espionage. Give it a rest Roy.
