Mehdi Abeid: Has caught the eye during a loan spell at St Johnstone

The 20-year-old Frenchman is set to be out of contract in the summer and is not expected to be offered fresh terms at St James' Park.

Abeid has taken in a loan spell at St Johnstone this season, but Saints manager Steve Lomas has no intention of making that move permanent.

That decision would appear to have left the door open for Adams, with County having been impressed by the youngster during his short time in Scotland.

Adams said in the Daily Record: "He's someone we are interested in but whether we can get him is a different matter.

"We have made contact with Newcastle and we'll see what happens.

"He is technically gifted and likes to drive forward from midfield. He can score goals and create chances.

"He is also the right age. I was impressed with him in the game against us, but I was aware of him before then and watched him a few times."

enteke is an absolute steal for £32.5m, he would get into any team in the world (except Barcelona) at the moment. I've seen many very good strikers in my 30+ years as a Villa fan. This guy is the best without question.
