Tiote could captain Alan Pardew's side for the third straight game when they take on Manchester City in the Capital One Cup on Wednesday, and they then face the challenge of a Premier League clash with Chelsea.

With memories of the 2-1 defeat by Sunderland at the Stadium of Light still fresh, the midfielder insists they have enough quality to produce two positive results.

"I think it's going to be a tough week for us - it's two massive games against Man City and Chelsea. But I think if we stay together and do the right things, we have a chance," Tiote said.

"I'm really disappointed because we didn't win at Sunderland. I think we deserved more than that, but they scored the winning goal.

"We have to talk about the next game. Every time we play Sunderland, it's tough. I think we did the right things, but we conceded a goal we didn't deserve to concede.

"It wasn't a foul - I didn't touch him. He slipped. They played quickly, but that's football. It's finished now, so we have to think about the next game.

"As a captain, you need to show an example, so I tried to do that in the right way. That's important.

"I'm really disappointed, because we didn't win. That's football. We have to stay as a team, stay compact and try to win the next game."
