Alan Pardew: Admits Newcastle must make improvements

Newcastle sat in the Premier League top six in December, but the squad was weakened by a string of injuries and the January departure of star midfielder Yohan Cabaye.

Just two wins in the final 10 games forced the North East club to settle for a 10th place finish and fans vented their frustration at Pardew and Ashley.

The pair will meet this week to discuss the season and transfer targets, with no suggestion of any showdown talks, and Pardew is confident he will get a sympathetic ear.

"I think it's important he understands some of the problems I have had. We can talk through some things I think need to improve," he said.

"Although he has a reputation of being aggressive, he's a better listener. That's why he has had such great success.

"He doesn't really say much. He listens and comes back to me, sometimes 48 hours after, and draws some conclusions from what I have said.

"It's not like there's too much hollering and shouting, it's more a case for Mike to listen to the problems I have had.

"Then he reflects on the budget and everything else to see how he can help me."

e'll be fine, no problem. If they do get relegated, he's definitely going to ask how anyone could ever have thought that Villa were going to be fine given their problems before he came.

toke though. Hmn. I don't think it was defending that made people dislike Stoke so much as the out and out cheating/nastiness they regularly displayed. That, and they kept buying the odd flair player and then ruining them (Oh! Tuncay, what were you thinking?).

ell that really inspires me with confidence. No point in training, deciding on a coherent formation, or playing players in their best positions, let's just hope we get lucky.
