Remy Cabella: Decision to join Newcastle came as a surprise to Montpellier presi

Newcastle have been interested in signing the France midfielder for some time and last week he completed a move to St James’ Park, arriving on a six-year deal.

Nicollin thinks Cabella has the talent to do well in the Premier League despite being ‘frail’, but he cannot understand why the player chose to go to Newcastle.

He told Foot Mercato: "He wanted to go. I wasn't happy, but I told him, 'Congratulations'.

"In England, there is Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, which are above Newcastle, but Newcastle is a club with a lot of French. He likes them, so great.

"Personally, I would not go to Newcastle. But hey, I'll see him when he plays against a club in London!

"He has what he wants, fine, we'll see. But in any case, he has the ability to succeed in England, that's for sure.

"He is frail, but he's hard to catch."

Montpellier initially demanded €15 million euros - around £11.8million - for Cabella, but reports have suggested that Newcastle paid just a little more than £7million.

However, Nicollin claimed he got full value for the player.

He said: "It was not the 15 million euros, but it is not far."

irst Townsend, now Chiles. What next ITV? Comedy that you can actually watch without vomiting up your own spleen? I'll be sad to see Matt Smith go though. I actually quite like him. Plus, he was good in Doctor Who.

wful, awful pundit. He was crap on BBC, and offered a little more analysis than Robbie Savage - apart from the delivery of banality in a sexy accent. Also, as I'm Irish he'll never be more then a slimy, hand-balling f**ker in my eyes.
