Emmanuel Riviere: Up and running in Newcastle colours

Alan Pardew has worked hard over the summer to bring added creativity and firepower to St James’ Park.

Among the new arrivals is Emmanuel Riviere, who has been snapped up from French giants Monaco.

He marked his debut with a goal in a 4-0 friendly win over Sydney FC on Tuesday, with Newcastle's frontmen catching the eye and offering the promise of more to come in Premier League competition.

Long-serving defender Taylor said ahead of the new campaign: "We have the pace up front to cause teams problems.

"Even at this stage of pre-season, our fitness is showing through and we looked sharp up front. There's a great work ethic in the team.

"In pre-season training, everybody's working hard, gearing up for the Manchester City game.

"We know it's important to put in a performance in every match in the build-up."

Manager Pardew added: "It was nice to see the new boys all contribute in a really positive way.

"It's obvious we have more offensive options now with the arrival of Riviere, Siem (de Jong) and Ayoze (Perez)."

was there, it was embarrassing - the team looked totally unbalanced from the off, the defence was woeful and when Mikel came off injured it got even worse with nobody in front of them. Up front on several occasions we had opportunities and nobody would shoot - it was a complete farse! On the back of Salah's performance I'm glad there is talk of getting shot...

reat to see Tommy Rosicky getting some love. A wonderful player. Such a pity we lost so long to injury. I was so excited when we signed him, this resurgence only makes the absences seem more of a lost opportunity.
