Carlos Tevez: Confident Manchester City have firepower to defend Premier League

City's Premier League title success in 2011/12 was built on their ability to blow opponents out of the water, with goal difference eventually seeing them to the crown.

They have, however, found the going a little tougher this term, with Tevez, Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli and Edin Dzeko still searching for consistency.

Mancini has acknowledged as much, suggesting that Manchester United's summer purchase of the prolific Robin van Persie could be the difference in this season's title race.

Tevez says those remarks have seen City's strikers dig a little deeper, with the Blues having plundered 10 goals in their last three fixtures.

He said: "These words were a motivation for the strikers.

"We know that we need to carry on fighting. United lost some games last season and we were back on track, so we will keep doing our job.

"There's a long way to go and a lot of games to play. The emotion of the Premier League means it's always a fight to the end. If United lose one game, we'll be getting close to them. They will know that.

"We want to keep winning, to keep fighting for the title. I will try to help us to compete on both fronts, the Premier League and FA Cup, and try to win both."
