Fernandinho: Unveiled by City on Wednesday

Fernandinho: Unveiled by City on Wednesday

The Brazilian midfielder joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk last month in a deal worth £34million to the Ukrainian club.

The cost to City is actually understood to be £30million, with the 28-year-old having made a personal financial sacrifice to make the move happen.

In the weeks preceding the transfer's completion, Fernandinho made clear his desire to move to the Etihad Stadium while City had also identified him as their top target.

He said: "In Ukraine, as well as in Brazil, Man City is now considered one of the best teams in the world and after I signed people back home in Brazil congratulated me for signing for one of the top teams in the world."

Fernandinho was flattered to be so highly regarded by City and is now determined to adapt quickly.

He said: "I think that was very important for me and I want to repay the club for what they have done for me by playing well on the pitch and winning as many trophies as possible.

"I think the main challenge for me is a different style compared with my last team and the amount of games during the season is more than I am used to."

World Cup dreams

Fernandinho shone in the Champions League last season and has become one of the top-rated players in Europe.

Despite that, he remains a relative unknown on the international stage having won just five caps for Brazil.

He hopes City will give him the platform to improve upon that ahead of next year's World Cup in his home country.

He said: "In time, my performances will tell us. We will have to wait and see.

"My first aim is to play well for my club, Manchester City, and if I do I am sure that will come to the attention of the national manager."

ood lord that's got me unnecessarily excited. Damn you Storey. Cut to Liverpool being crushed under the wheels of Sparky's Stoke Machine and Firmino brought off the bench to no effect. It's the hope that kills you.

think he'll do quite well. My only reservation would be Kagawa, who had similar stats to Firmino in the bundesliga before he came, but time will tell.
