Micah Richards: Manchester City defender won't beg for England recall

The Manchester City defender has not played for England under Hodgson and his last international appearance came in Stuart Pearce's match in caretaker charge against the Netherlands in February 2012.

He declined the opportunity to go on stand-by for Hodgson's squad for the 2012 European Championship and instead was part of Pearce's plans for the Team GB Olympic squad later that summer.

The 25-year-old is happy he had the chance to play in the Olympic Games, but he remains on the periphery of the England scene.

"Well, it was one of those where Stuart Pearce asked me to go to the Olympics and not go on stand-by," Richards is quoted in The Independent.

"If I went on stand-by I might not have made the Olympics and that was one of the highlights of my career.

"I'm not going to beg for him [Hodgson] to pick me. I'm not some sort of charity case. If he needs me I will be there because everyone wants to play for their country.

"I always take it as it comes. I have not been involved for two years. Stuart Pearce gave me a game when he got it. I want to play for my country and I would be happy if I did."

Richards has endured injury problems over the past 12 months and was restricted to just eight appearances for City last season.

He has featured only twice under Manuel Pellegrini so far this term - in the 5-0 Capital One Cup win over Wigan and the 3-1 UEFA Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich.

ven if United were to sign CR7 & Messi to play upfront, the fact remains Fletcher and Cleverly are playing in midfield. That's where the problem is. Fletcher is too slow with an awful pass, while Cleverly is simply rubbish
