Vincent Kompany: Taking nothing for granted

City pulled off their second home success in three days with a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, coming hot on the heels of Thursday's 2-1 victory against high-flying Liverpool.

The two wins briefly put City at the head of the table - until Arsenal reclaimed top spot by a point with a 1-0 success at Newcastle on Sunday.

Eight points now cover the top seven teams in the table at the halfway stage of the season and Kompany is taking nothing for granted in the race for the title.

He said: "Being top is important but in a way it doesn't mean too much yet.

"We've put ourselves in a nice position for the second half of the season.

"Now we're on course, but to say that it will be like this all season, there is no guarantee.

"It feels like we've played so many games already but we arrive in January and there's actually still not much between all the teams.

"It's been an intense first half of the season and if the second half is as intense and as good, then we'll be looking at an incredible season."

Massive win

City were expected to thrash the Eagles but claimed the win via a solitary Edin Dzeko second-half goal.

Kompany added: "It's a massive win. I think most of the players were as happy with this as they were with the one against Liverpool.

"It's a tricky period, a turnaround in 48 hours. It's six points in 48 hours, which is a great boost.

"After our first couple of crosses went into the box and they failed to connect, you wondered if it was going to be one of those games.

"We struggled with these kind of games a couple of years ago, so this result is massive."

icky van Wolfswinkel's remarkable record of one goal from one game at least deserves an honourable mention. And I'm willing to bet that at least one of Costa, Ulloa or Enner Valencia will earn a place on the list by the end of the season. Probably not Costa
