Marcos Lopes: Keen for more game time at City

City won the semi-final 9-0 on aggregate after the second-leg success at Upton Park on Tuesday night, and the 18-year-old Lopes is hoping his two assists for Alvaro Negredo will provide him with more game time.

The Portugese midfielder's dream is to play at Wembley which may just come true in the final on March 2 as Samir Nasri remains sidelined with a knee injury.

"It was a great night for me and for all the team," said Lopes, who scored on his City debut in the FA Cup third-round win over Watford last season.

"It's a different level, high-intensity 90 minutes, but it's good for me to learn with these players and play these games.

"I have to do my work and my job and hopefully I'll get more chances.

"It's a dream to be in Wembley. I'll keep working for that and I hope I can be there."

And it wasn't just Lopes who was thrilled with his own performance, as coach Manuel Pellegrini was effusive in his praise of the teenager.

"Marcos is a young player with a great future," said Pellegrini.

"He is just 18 years old and played with the personality he needs to play in our team.

"I see him work every day of the week, so I was sure he would realise the kind of performance he put on.

"I'm very happy for him because he deserves to do it - and he is a very important player for the future of the club."

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.

'Tactically Inept And Lacking In Belief And Style'

It's fair to say that the 'Moyes Out' brigade is understandably out in force, whilst there are also staunch defences of Mourinho and Arteta. Plus, Liverpool fans can almost taste it.
