Jonathan Pitroipa: Performances for Burkina Faso have seen him linked with Evert

Burkina Faso provided one of the stories of the tournament with their run to the final, but were unable to enjoy a fairytale ending as Nigeria won on Sunday.

Pitroipa was named as the Player of the Tournament and has subsequently been linked with a move to the Premier League, with scouts from European clubs closely monitoring events in South Africa.

Reports in Africa suggest that Everton are in pole position to land his signature, while Fulham are also said to have shown an interest.

The 26-year-old, who currently plays for Rennes in France, is just pleased to have put his country on the footballing map and hopes they can build on a tremendous achievement.

He told Sky Sports: "We were very close, we gave a dream to our people back home, we made them proud of us and we deserved to come second.

"Nigeria, for their past three games, deserve to be winners.

"Now our football will be taken seriously. I hope it is a start and we can go forward not backward."
