Jol hopeful over key pair

Fulham boss Martin Jol is hopeful that Scott Parker and Dimitar Berbatov will be fit for Monday's visit to lowly Crystal Palace.

Combative midfielder Parker limped out of the defeat to Cardiff before striker Berbatov was forced off during the 1-0 win over Stoke prior to the international break, a result which lifted the Cottagers out of the Premier League relegation zone.

But Jol believes both will be available for the short trip to Selhurst Park, while his international players also appear to have returned unscathed from World Cup qualifying duty.

Jol said: "Scott Parker will train with us on Friday so hopefully he'll be fine because he's back again.

"Berbatov will be back and Aaron Hughes will train on Friday. Everything is fine because all the international players came back and looked good."

Jol has also urged Ashkan Dejagah to stake a claim for a regular place on the right wing after he returned from injury to feature for Iran in their win over Thailand earlier this week.

"I've got, as I said before, a few options on the flank - especially on that flank - so first he must be 100 per cent fit," the Dutchman added.

"I told him a couple of weeks ago that I want him to be the number one but, of course, I want Damien Duff to be the number one, I want Bryan Ruiz to be the number one.

"They have to compete for their places so, of course, if he's not fit, 100 per cent fit, he won't be in contention. As soon as he's fit, and he wasn't until now because he had a big injury, then he'll be back in the squad."

Palace are rooted in the bottom three having picked up only three points from their opening seven fixtures, but Jol has warned that Ian Holloway's side should not be underestimated.

"It's not easy to go away from home to play against these teams," he said. "If you saw Crystal Palace away against Liverpool in the second half, they could have scored more goals than one. Of course, it was 3-0 going into the second half but they could have scored two or three.

"They're a strong team and it will be difficult but I think we've got the qualities and the players to get a result.

"They need the points as well - it's the Premier League, so it will be difficult but hopefully we'll get the points because we need these points to get up the league table.

"I think Crystal Palace started off well and then, of course, had a few difficult oppositions to play so they didn't have the rub of the green and were a bit unfortunate, like us, and that's why they are where they are."

ah, Fergie is just having another pop at Rooney. He just wants to put him down whenever he gets a chance. Rooney is by far the best English player. Carrick is not far behind, mind. However, by elevating Carrick like that, Sir is having a dig at Wayne. Fergie is well-known for mind games like that. Good to see he's still feisty.
