The Ivory Coast striker joined the Latics from La Liga side Levante last August for a fee in the region of €3.5million.

The 29-year-old made a decent start to his Premier League career, scoring three goals in his first seven games for the Lancashire club.

He endured a run of just one goal in 11 matches through the winter, but has started to show glimpses of his best form since returning from African Cup of Nations duty at the start of February.

The former PSV and Hannover frontman has bagged four goals in his last two games, including a brace in the clash with relegation rivals Reading last weekend.

Kone is delighted with his double strike at the Madejski Stadium and has set his sights on further goals between now and May to help fire Roberto Martinez's men to safety.

"I am delighted with the goals," he said. "It has been difficult to settle but it is a fantastic club trying everything for the players.

"We have a great young manager who we all want to play for. I hope to score more goals in the 11 games left in the season."
