Paul Scharner: Set to head back to Germany

Scharner joined Hamburg last summer after leaving West Brom but he failed to make a major impact at the imtech-Arena and was loaned back to former club Wigan in January.

The Austrian has done well back at the DW Stadium, but Scharner admits he has unfinished business at Hamburg.

"There has been no real change. I am due to be back at Hamburger SV this summer," he told the Hamburger Morgenpost.

"It's my utmost ambition to make a name for myself at Hamburger SV. Those experiences I am having in the Premiership are giving me an extra boost to do so.

"I am actually believing in my full strength again. I am a good player, if I am getting regular match action!"

His agent Valentin Hobel added that Scharner would be back at Hamburg, unless told otherwise.

"Paul has a contract at Hamburger SV. It would take a statement from the club to see him change his mind. He would change his mind if the club tells him he has no future at Hamburger SV."

Another player hoping to make an impact at Hamburg is Michael Mancienne - who has been injured for the last two-months.

Mancienne is now competing for a first-team place with the likes of Jeffrey Bruma and Slobodan Rajkovic - both of whom are former Chelsea team-mates.

Mancienne said: "Basically I am feeling great. I have started to work on my fitness in recent weeks and I feel I am back on top of my fitness at this point in time. I am out to fight for regular action. I want to be in the first-team again."

S

till reckon Chelsea will go for Khedira as back up for Matic. I think it will turn out to be quite a Mourihno-y window: We'll see the squad players and youth in action pre-season, say things like well, we need not buy anybody and then the club will bid £60m for Pogba and send everybody on loan.

I

would love to be a fly on the wall at the meeting between Milner and Rodgers. I don't know if flies can count, but if they can then I would be counting the number of times Rodgers used the word outstanding in his attempts to get Milner to sign.

Reds and Arsenal chase Milner

W

ell, it wouldn't be a summer without Arsenal fans fretting over losing a key player, and United throwing their weight around and muscling in on transfer deals which are (apparently) near to completion. If we can't be entertained by the football on the pitch, let's enjoy the silly off-pitch soap opera of the transfer season. Hurrah!
