Martinez was disappointed at seeing two points slip away from his team in the dying stages at the DW Stadium, but took several pluses from the game.

He signalled out James McCarthy, Jordi Gomez and James McArthur for their efforts along with Callum McManaman, who was involved in both Wigan goals.

"He looked a real threat," Martinez said. "He wins the corner, and then obviously the goal that he scores from open play is of a real, real talent.

"I think you saw an incredible lesson of tactical awareness from James McCarthy, James McArthur and Jordi Gomez.

"I asked them to do something very difficult and they mastered it. I couldn't be prouder."

do concede though, that getting rid of Luiz has made them less entertaining. In the same way that driving with both eyes open is less exciting, but probably a good idea.
