Will Keane: May be allowed to leave Manchester United on loan

The Latics boss has refused to reveal the identity of the player in the question, but reports suggest that Manchester United youngster Will Keane will soon be heading to the DW Stadium.

Coyle has already raided the Old Trafford ranks for Nick Powell this season, and United boss David Moyes may be about to offer him another helping hand in the attacking department.

Wigan are in need of a goalscorer, with luck very much against them in the final third this season, and Coyle is convinced that he is bringing in the kind of talent that can help to shoulder that responsibility.

He told the Evening Post: "Everything is agreed in principle, verbally, but until we get that signed, I'm very reluctant to give any name.

"I'm always reluctant until everything is concluded to commit myself, but we are very close to getting that concluded - I am very hopeful of that.

"It's a young player who is an exciting player, a striker who I've watched for a number of years and I'm a huge admirer of.

"It will certainly add to the squad, we want to make sure that we have a squad that will cope with the demands of the set of fixtures that are in front of us."

Keane is a product of United's famed academy system and has made one senior appearance for the Red Devils - back in December 2011.

He has also taken in three outings for the England U21s, but has endured a tough time with injuries of late and needs regular games if he is to achieve his undoubted potential.

I

may well get slated by other United fans for this, but out of the three contenders, I'd far prefer Liverpool to win the title. Yes some elements of their fanbase can be a bit OTT, yes they're our biggest rivals and yes it will make our poor season feel even more like the end of an era (Fergie's gone, Liverpool are back on top). However I just have to applaud Brendan Rodgers and the way he's turned Liverpool around in just a couple of seasons. It...

ooray! We are all excited now, we beat a very mediocre team! With all due respect to WHU supporters, not winning that game shouldn't even be a consideration. This is the problem, there is no winning mentality at the Emirates - we're all congratulating ourselves beating a team that we have a winning record against.

I

s this meant to be an aspiration for United supporters? Moyes mediocrity strikes again. I see the Bayern boys don't want to sign for him, and his reputation amongst the senior European coaches make other key signings unlikely.
